Paris Saint-Germain coach Christophe Galtier said he was “in shock” at accusations of racism and xenophobia that had been leveled against him.
“I am shocked by what was published in an irresponsible way. They hurt me and I was sad about it all. I grew up in Marseille, with people of different races, origins and religions”, he said during a press conference.
Galtier was accused of having uttered racist lines in August 2021, when he commanded Nice.
“He [Galtier] replied (…) that in fact we could not have so many blacks and Muslims on the team”, says the email that made the complaint.
“I cannot accept being attacked like this. I have confidence in France’s judicial system after my reputation was tarnished,” he added.
Galtier also added that he will not be making further statements on the matter. PSG, according to broadcaster RMC Sport, launched an internal investigation to determine the facts.
I have taken refuge with my people in this difficult week. The work sessions have sometimes helped me to forget all this Christophe Galtier.
