Much more than medals in their luggage, the delegation with 24 athletes who represented the Federal Institute of Amapá (Ifap) at the Federal Institutes Games (JIFs) – National Stage brought home experience, resilience and learning. Athletes from the Macapá and Laranjal do Jari campuses competed in chess, field football, swimming and athletics. The games took place in Fortaleza-CE from October 23rd to 28th.
The highlight this year was swimming, which won eight medals. The modality was represented by students Gabriel Bandeira, Kalliny Maize and Matheus Hanry. Gabriel, a Civil Engineering student, won three golds and one silver, being the record holder in the 200m freestyle with a time of 2:00.08. Kalliny, also a Civil Engineering student, won two golds and two bronzes.
“The competition is of a high level and there are good athletes. So competing in the Jifs, representing Amapá and Ifap and presenting good results is a great satisfaction”, celebrated Gabriel. “It was a pleasure to swim in this competition and even more so taking the name of Ifap and Amapá to other regions”Kalliny added.
“Swimming, as in previous years, has always been a sport that has given us many medals, and this year was no different. So we see that swimming is the sport that gives us the highest number of medals in many competitions we participate in”highlighted professor Samyr Quebra.
Students Bryan da Costa, Vinícius Santarém, Rogério Ceni and João Ardasse represented chess, both as a team and individually. The athletes had an extensive competition that lasted three days. For student Bryan, his participation was positive. “My experience was a retrospective of always wanting to improve, seeing the levels of athletes. It was also difficult to overcome because of the days in which chess matches had to be played, having to maintain good regularity”, he said.
The field football team almost reached the semi-finals of the competition. In the first game, the team drew 1-1 with Instituto Federal Catarinense. In the second match, they won 2-1 against Instituto Federal do Ceará. In the playoff, Ifap lost on penalties against the Federal Institute of Mato Grosso.
“It was one of the most challenging and fulfilling things in my life. The national stage provides us with unique moments that we will cherish for the rest of our lives. After a 3-day trip leaving Amapá, but specifically Laranjal do Jari, we can say that we are victorious, despite all the challenges, and especially the physical fatigue, but always with a winning spirit”said Warlison Souza.
In athletics, Saulo Ítalo debuted in the Jifs – National Stage. He competed in the 200m dash and the 100m dash. “It was my first time participating and I performed well. Unfortunately I couldn’t bring a medal, I had some slip-ups that prevented me from giving my all in the competition, but it was still a great experience, I met new people, a new place, I had another mix of emotions and being able to witness the whole experience. I still hope to be able to compete next year and I promise to be stronger and bring a gold medal to our institute”he commented.
One of the teachers who accompanied the delegation, professor Rodrigo Denuir, reinforces that the Jifs have high-level athletes and that the Ifap students performed well. “The national stage is a high-performance competition where the champions of each region meet, so it is a very strong competition and Amapá has been growing every year and standing out in the games”stressed the teacher.
