Federal deputy and pastor Marco Feliciano (PL-SP) said that the arrest of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) could make Brazil “turn into chaos”. The comment was made this Tuesday (21) during the program Assunto Capital, from Gazeta do Povo, which dealt with the demonstration called by Bolsonaro for February 25th and about the crisis of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) with Israel.

For Feliciano, the demonstration, which should take place in São Paulo and promises to fill Avenida Paulista, will show the former president’s strength through his mobilization power. “This demonstration will show that the [ex-]The president has prestige, he has an audience, he has people who believe in him, he has soldiers. He is not a soldier to go to war, take up arms and make a revolution. But he has a scope, a capillarity like no other political leader has”, stated the deputy.

The call for the demonstration, however, has also raised the possibility that Bolsonaro or his allies will be punished for their speech or actions. For this reason, the former president himself has asked his supporters not to carry posters insulting people or institutions.

During the interview with Assunto Capital, deputy Feliciano also highlighted that the demonstration will be a moment to show that Bolsonaro is alive and competitive. Furthermore, he emphasized that Bolsonaro’s arrest would be an injustice and would lead Brazil to chaos.

“If they arrest Bolsonaro before this demonstration, it will become chaos in Brazil. If you arrest yourself after the demonstration, it becomes another chaos. So this is a way to show that he’s not dead, that he’s competitive and that they can’t do injustice. The Brazilian is waking up. They are playing. They arrest one, they arrest another, thinking they are above good and evil, thinking they are gods and the law is for everyone. So, they can’t do that. This demonstration will truly show who Bolsonaro is,” said Feliciano.

The Assunto Capital program airs on Tuesdays at 8pm, on Gazeta do Povo’s YouTube, and brings news from the political week and interviews with parliamentarians.
