The Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) reported that a helicopter, a plane and a bulldozer that were used by miners were destroyed in the Yanomami indigenous land, in Roraima. The operation is carried out in partnership with the National Public Security Force and the National Foundation for Indigenous Peoples (Funai). In addition, two weapons, three boats with about 5,000 liters of fuel and supplies were also seized.

A control base was set up on the Uraricoera River to prevent supplies from being sent to prospectors who are still in Yanomami territory and also to stop the flow of production from the mining. According to Ibama, new inspection points will be installed in other parts of the indigenous land.

The federal government stated that inspection teams will remain in place indefinitely. The National Attorney’s Office for the Defense of the Climate and the Environment and the Attorney General’s Office (AGU) monitor the actions in Roraima.
