“I intend to have a permanent coach in March”

Although no name was officially sought, the new coach of the Brazilian national team will be defined in the coming weeks and will be on the edge of the pitch for the two FIFA dates in March. The guarantee is from the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, who declared that he was against an interim coach – a possibility that was even suggested in case the entity goes after a European coach who is employed.

“We don’t expect to have an interim coach. I hope it can be a permanent coach. The FIFA dates, which will be friendlies for the Brazilian selection in March, I believe that the coach will already be in place”, said Ednaldo this Tuesday (17 ). “It may even happen, but what I intend is that in March we can already have a definitive coach, not a coach that is provisional.”

The search for the coach who will have the mission of recovering the “offensive football” of the selection, classifying it for the 2026 World Cup and, finally, winning the World Cup after 24 years without having started this Tuesday, as soon as Tite signed your contract termination. The former coach was at CBF headquarters in the early afternoon and officially ended his contract.

“The search will start now”, assured Ednaldo. “I’ve always tried to respect the people who work for this institution, whether directors or collaborators. I heard so many names (of coaches)… Until the turn of the year, I think there were 26 names, I don’t know if since then it has arrived. more”, he joked, denying that any kind of consultation had come from him or from emissaries.

The top hat didn’t give any clues as to who the name was being sought, but let slip that “one of those that you always put there, surely work has already started on it”. And the tendency is for it to be a foreigner, even if Ednaldo loses it.

“We don’t have any decree that a foreign coach has to be, as well as being Brazilian. We don’t have nationality prejudice. those athletes and with what Brazil has always tried to do, be very offensive”, he maintained.

“The coach who comes to us wants him to be dedicated, with a lot of commitment, and who can, above all, not only have his eyes turned to the senior national team, but also to the base, Olympic, under-17 teams”, added the president from the CBF.

In addition to Tite, the entire coaching staff will be dismissed, as well as the selection coordinator, Juninho Paulista. Some of them – including Juninho – have not yet been dismissed for purely bureaucratic reasons. That’s because everyone is hired under the CLT regime and there are deadlines to be met. Juninho even goes on vacation.

What is certain is that the new executive who will be hired will have broader functions. “He will be a director of selections, not a coordinator of a single selection”, explained Ednaldo, who wants a professional “with good transit between clubs”. The profile sought is a former athlete.

Selection performance analysts, in turn, will remain employed – at least for now. The idea is that the next coach will have a large base of information to start his work. From then on, it will be up to the professional to decide whether to keep the team or change it.
