Deputy Domingos Sávio (PL-MG), author of the proposed amendment to the Constitution (PEC) that aims to stop interference by the Federal Supreme Court (STF), said that he respects the ministers of the Supreme Court and the institution, but is not afraid of the STF .
The PEC amends article 49 of the Constitution and gives Congress the power to suspend, by qualified majority, Supreme Court decisions considered abusive.
“If Congress makes a decision, the Supreme Court must respect the decision. Lately, the Supreme Court has been legislating […] I believe that there must be common sense on the part of the eleven ministers that we respect a lot, but we must not be afraid. I have respect, I’m not afraid of the STF,” said the deputy during an interview with Jornal da Manhã, from Jovem Pan, this Thursday (28).
Sávio highlighted the movements of Congress against the STF’s decision that rejected the time frame when reviewing the Court’s own previous understanding, and said that parliamentarians remain united against the progress given by the Supreme Court to other topics that should be discussed within the Legislative sphere, the example, abortion, private property and the decriminalization of drugs.
“When the STF was created, the constituents did not place it as supreme, being superior to the other Powers, which are independent of harmonics. It turns out that some STF ministers think that they are supreme over all other Powers. It (the STF) is the supreme court of the judiciary. It is the last word of the judiciary, it cannot now start wanting to interfere in the Legislature, wanting to make laws”, added the deputy.
