HR Minister gets angry and leaves legal group – 09/22/2023 – Panel

Minister Silvio Almeida (Human Rights) was angered on Thursday (21) when he was accused by a lawyer during a debate on Prerogativas’ WhatsApp and left the group, which brings together lawyers allied with President Lula (PT).
The topic under discussion was criticism of a prison privatization model.
Before leaving, the minister stated that it was not fair or correct to hold him responsible for a proposal that was not even on his desk. And he complained about his quote in the message. He said that the way it was put, he was painted as irresponsible.
In her statement, the group member called the idea of privatizing prisons intolerable, especially during the Lula government. The lawyer mentioned the possibility of BNDES financing the initiative and asked how ministers would allow such insanity.
In addition to Almeida, she included minister Fernando Haddad (Finance), also a member of the group, in the message. After the human rights holder’s withdrawal, she said she hopes Haddad does not behave in the same way.
Without mentioning his colleague’s impetus, the Finance Minister replied that, like Almeida, he was unaware of the topic. But he said he would try to find out.
Coordinator of Prerogativas, lawyer Marco Aurélio de Carvalho, called group participants in an attempt to calm tempers.
A Sheet, said he expected Almeida’s return with open arms. “I hope he reevaluates and I will wait for him with open arms. Silvio continues to have my affection, my admiration and my support,” he said.
When contacted, the minister said that “he decided to leave the Prerogativas WhatsApp group, a place where he has great friends, to guarantee freedom of criticism and the free expression of ideas, without there being any type of embarrassment due to the fact that he holds a position in the Federal Government.”
“Furthermore, as Minister of State, it is up to him to formally speak out on issues related to human rights when officially requested.”
