O striker Marcelo Cirino posted a farewell video and confirmed his departure from Athletico. The player had been away from the main squad for around two months and had a contract until the end of this season.
With just two appearances for Furacão in 2023, Cirino has been away from the main squad since September, when he was informed by the board that he was no longer part of the club’s plans.

Cirino’s last match took place in the defeat to Bolívar, on August 1st, in the Libertadores, which ended up disqualifying Athletico in the round of 16.
Previously, in 2022, the player had already undergone surgery after tearing his knee ligament. He was out of action for eight months. Created by CT do Caju, Cirino leaves the club with his name marked in history. In total, he had four spells at Baixada.
Marcelo was champion of Paraná five times and also won the Copa Sul-Americana, in 2018, and the Copa do Brasil, in 2019.

“After everything I’ve experienced with this shirt, the feeling that remains at the end is one of gratitude. They were remarkable moments that will never be erased. Not even from my memory, much less from the history of Athletico”, said Cirino, in farewell video.
“I had the privilege of participating in this transformation and the change in the club’s level, feared today in all the competitions it competes in. The respect I have had in these 16 years, since my arrival, will continue forever. Thank you, Athletico Paranaense”, he added.
