The high temperatures at the end of the year and a possible return of Summer Time are a good opportunity for bars and restaurants to increase their traffic. On hot days, air-conditioned and cozy environments are inviting, and the later dusk of the season motivates customers to look for options for the happy hour. This is the analysis of João Ricardo Tonin, economist at FoodCo.

According to data from the Brazilian Association of Bars and Restaurants (Abrasel), days with high temperatures tend to result in a 15% increase in revenue. Demand for drinks grows by around 40%. The economist warns, however, that if the establishment does not provide a comfortable environment for high temperatures, the effect may be the opposite – poorly ventilated places end up driving away consumers.

Also according to Abrasel, Summer Time increases demand for restaurants by between 10% and 15%. As for operating costs, Tonin highlights that the high volume of rain can keep the price of electricity low. With the green flag charging, investing in air conditioning units becomes more favorable. Christmas decorations and special options that refer to the holidays are also a good way to attract movement during the period.

“Given the prospects of labor shortages, it is recommended to anticipate hiring in the sector. Leaving it until the last minute can result in high salaries or the provision of low-quality services”, concludes the economist.
