Hero of Amazonas FC’s classification, Rubens celebrates the club’s first goal in the Copa do Brasil

Manaus (AM) – Amazonas FC qualified for the second phase of the Copa do Brasil after beating Independente-AP 1-0, on Wednesday (21), at the Zerão stadium, in Macapá (AP). The Aurinegro club now awaits the winner of Maringá-PR and América-MG, which takes place next Wednesday (28).

After their debut in the tournament, the Jaguar from the East Zone already managed to qualify thanks to striker Rubens, who scored the winning goal and the first for Amazonas in the history of the knockout tournament. The center forward celebrated the historic goal.

“A very good feeling, a lot of emotion. I thank God for this opportunity, to have written my name in the history of Amazonas. I will continue working, dedicating myself, to continue making history with the club. This goal means a lot to me and I’m very happy to have scored and helped the group”,

said Rubens, number 9 of the Eastern Zone Jaguar.

The goal came in the 33rd minute of the second half. Fabiano crossed from the left side to the head of center forward Rubens, who finished as per the manual, in the corner, to open the scoring for Amazonas in the ‘middle of the world’.

Regardless of who qualifies between Maringá-PR and América-MG, the draw determined that the Jaguar will be the visitor in the unique duel, scheduled for March 6th or 13th. In case of a draw, at this stage, the dispute goes to penalty kicks.

Focus on Barezão

Amazonas returns to the field next Sunday (25th), at 6pm, against São Raimundo, in the final of the first round of the Amazonense Championship, at Arena da Amazônia.

“It’s now full focus on the decision. It’s turning the key. It’s going to be a very difficult game. Let’s see what the professor has to say about his opponent, who we already know”, concluded Rubens.
