Starting this Saturday (3), the Ministry of Health begins an emergency operation to try to contain the spread of dengue throughout the country, with the increase in the number of cases of the disease in several states.
The Emergency Operations Center (COE) will be installed in Brasília, which has already declared a state of emergency against dengue, after recording a 1,060% increase in cases of the disease.
According to the Ministry of Health, the center’s objective is to make monitoring and analysis of the national scenario more agile and, thus, reinforce assistance in states and municipalities, including the supply of raw materials for basic health units and hospitals.
According to the Minister of Health, Nísia Trindade, R$ 140 million will be allocated per month to combat the disease in Brazilian states. The Emergency Operations Center will integrate the department’s secretariats and technical areas with the council of states and municipalities to act with greater agility in combating dengue, informed the ministry.
So far, Acre, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, some municipalities in Goiás, and the Federal District have declared a state of emergency. Paraná is also experiencing a critical situation, with one of the highest incidence rates of the disease, but has not yet declared a state of emergency.
This year, Brazil has already registered 262,242 probable cases of dengue. Data from the government’s arbovirus monitoring panel indicates 29 deaths from the disease this year and another 173 cases remain under investigation.
Still this Saturday, the Minister of Health should meet with mayors to discuss integrated actions to combat dengue, and on Monday (5) a new meeting with governors is planned.
