Haddad travels to France and should ask Lula for a solution to the agreement with the European Union

Minister Fernando Haddad, of Finance, travels to Paris this Wednesday night (21) to participate in the summit on the New Global Financing Pact, an event promoted by French President Emmanuel Macron. The minister is going to meet Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), who is already in Europe participating in bilateral meetings with leaders from Italy and France.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the event aims to discuss ways to make the international financial system more responsive to fight inequalities and finance the climate transition. However, the expectation is that Haddad and Lula will also discuss with the French president a solution to the impasse created by the country’s parliament for the agreement between Mercosur and the European Union.

Last Monday (19), during a live, Lula said he would have lunch with Macron to discuss the restrictions created by the French parliament that create barriers to the sale of Brazilian products in the European Union.

“I want to discuss with Macron the question of the French parliament that approved the tightening of the Mercosur-European Union agreement. The threat Lula referred to was the amendment approved by the French parliament to the trade agreement that creates tough sustainability requirements for South American partners, such as preventing products supposedly originating from deforested forest areas from being sold in the 27 countries of the European bloc, as commodities. agriculture and livestock.

Experts claim, however, that the restrictions are nothing more than protectionism by Europeans to prevent the flight of investments in green economy and technology to other countries, mainly the United States and China.
