The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, celebrated the approval of the basic text of the tax reform by the Chamber of Deputies this Thursday (6). The text was approved in the first round with 318 votes in favor, 118 against and 3 abstentions. Parliamentarians analyze the highlights and must vote on the second round of PEC 45/19 this evening.

“After decades, we approved a Tax Reform. Democratically. It seemed impossible. It was worth fighting for!”, wrote the minister in the twitter.

The approved text was the substitute presented by the proposal’s rapporteur, Deputy Aguinaldo Ribeiro (PP-PB). “Tax Reform is not a government proposal; the country asks for it. It is a necessity for our economy, for our productivity to advance”, defended Haddad.

The minister stressed that it is necessary to “depolarize” the discussion on changing the tax system. “This outdated way in which taxes are organized is very disruptive to industry, commerce, services. We need to depolarize this discussion, de-partisanize it. It is a country project that will benefit everyone. A win for us and for generations to come,” he added.
