From Saturday, 16th, Amapá will be the stage for the Grão-Pará North and Northeast Swimming Tournament, held by the State Government. The event will bring together around 110 athletes, including competitors from Amapá, Pará and Maranhão. The competition will have 26 events, in the women’s and men’s categories, in the front crawl, butterfly, breaststroke and backstroke styles.

The new feature of the tournament is the participation of a guest team from French Guiana. With the action, the State Government seeks to strengthen cross-border, sporting and cultural ties between the state and the French overseas department, which will serve as the basis for the Brazil – France Swimming tournament, scheduled to take place in September 2024.

“We are excited to host the Grão-Pará North and Northeast Swimming Tournament once again. This event not only provides a platform for athletes to demonstrate their talent, but also promotes cultural exchange between Brazilian and French athletes.”says the competition organizer, Nadilson Siqueira.

Grão-Pará, as well as the Leônidas Marques competition (which will take place in April), is part of the sports calendar of the State Secretariat for Sports and Leisure (Sedel), in partnership with the Pororoca Master Swimming Association.

“It is a time to celebrate not only sporting excellence, but also the diversity and unity that sport promotes”assesses the secretary of sport and leisure, Rudney Nunes.

The winning athletes will receive medals and there will also be team trophies for ‘Best Technical Index’ and ‘Efficiency Trophy’, both for the categories. This year, the award will be named after the ‘Antônio Pinheiro Teles’, nephrologist who contributed to the development of swimming in the state of Amapá and who passed away in 2017.
