Governor Clécio Luís delivers Deck of Curiaú to the quilombola community of Amapá – News of Brazil

Rescuing ancestry and returning a sacred space to those who own it in fact and by right was the feeling of Governor Clécio Luís when delivering, on the night of Thursday, 29th, the new Deck of Curiaú to the quilombola community that bears the same name .
Alongside the Minister of Culture, Margareth Menezes, from the quilombola community and other authorities, the governor highlighted the participation of residents in the construction of the revitalization project, which also included the concession of two restaurants for entrepreneurs in the region.
A postcard of Amapá, the Deck is located in the Environmental Protection Area (APA) of the Curiaú River, which connects the region to the Amazon River. The investment was R$ 1.9 million, resources from the state treasury.
“Today we reaffirm that ancestry needs to be respected. This tourist postcard of our state means the conquest of the black people. This place, beautiful as it is, will feed even more the stories, self-esteem and destiny of the people of Curiaú. This is how we are going to build the Amapá we want. The works are important, but what will take us forward is our people and our history, and honoring this history”, stressed the governor.
The place has been completely revitalized and has two restaurants, bathrooms, an accessible ramp, aimed at people with physical disabilities, reduced mobility and younger children, as well as a staircase that was made of wood and is now made of concrete, providing greater safety for bathers and having greater durability.
To the sound of the batuque and the thieves (traditional music from the marabaixo), and the swaying of the round skirts, Minister Margareth Menezes, highlighted that this was a historic moment of rescue and tradition of the black people of Amapá.
“A really exciting moment, as this space represents the entire identity of its people, rich in history and ancestry. May this place be taken care of, kept well preserved by the community that represents it”, said Margareth.
One of the proposals for the revitalization of the site was the enhancement and generation of local employment. According to the president of the Association of Residents of the Community of Curiaú, Maria Celestina, the community itself asked the government for the services.
′′ The feeling is of gratitude, we expect a lot for this delivery that is happening today. We made this appeal to Governor Clécio, who responded to us, and that represents a commitment to our community”, said Celestina, moved.
Senator Randolfe Rodrigues reinforced that it is time to rescue the cultural identity of the people of Amapa.
“It’s more than a tourist spot, here the black people marked and forged their identity, from where our symbols come from, our songs to the sound of mara bass boxes. It is a space of resistance of the cultural identity of our people. I congratulate the administration of Governor Clécio and all those who were part of this moment, because the residents of Curiaú deserve it”, said the senator.
Employment and income generation
The community residents themselves were hired to carry out the revitalization services, in addition to taking over the surrounding restaurants.
Listening to residents and integrating them into projects is part of the state management’s commitment to establishing closer contact with the communities in Amapa.
“Based on these dialogues, we are able to start taking a stand in each portfolio, at each secretariat to define how we can build the best path of public management together with the communities”, highlighted Clícia Di Miceli, Secretary of Culture.
A resident of Curiaú, Joacileide da Silva, was one of the entrepreneurs contemplated by the edict of the Secretary of State for Tourism (Setur), to develop commercial activity on the deck.
“It will be a wonderful professional growth. Here is a very large flow, it is an opportunity to be able to show our work and my passion for cooking, there will be no shortage of shrimp on the breath ”, she said, excited.
According to the Secretary of Tourism, Anne Monte, the revitalization of the resort, which began in 2022, was a priority for the Government of Amapá in these six months of the new management. Deck do Curiaú will be at the forefront of sustainable tourism and this potential can be better explored with the help of the residents themselves.
“The goal is to attract more visitors, expand income opportunities for the community and enhance the state’s tourist attractions, in addition to developing entrepreneurship,” said the secretary.
The ceremony featured cultural presentations, mara bass, sunset, and a walk on the Curiaú River. The ceremony was attended by authorities, state secretaries and the president of Sebrae Amapá, Josiel Alcolumbre, who on the occasion also represented Senator Davi Alcolumbre. The APA deck on the Curiaú River is located in the North Zone of the capital, on Highway AP 070.
