Governor Clécio Luís announces Amapá as sub-host of COP 30, in 2025 – News of Brazil

The governor Clécio Luís announced this Wednesday, 31st, at the Palácio do Setentrião, during the announcement and inauguration ceremony of the new secretaries of State, that Amapá was confirmed as the sub-host of the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 30), which will be in Belém (PA), in 2025.
“When we were with President Lula, in Brasília, he informed us to go to Itamaraty to discuss the Amapá proposal, which is actually integrated into the Amazon COP, in Belém. We met there, on Friday, the 26th, and received the information that Amapá, more precisely Macapá, was chosen as the sub-host of COP 30, in 2025”, celebrated the governor.
The Amapá Government’s desire to strengthen the COP in the Amazon was also on the agenda of governor Clécio Luís’ meeting with ambassadors from 38 countries, such as Serbia, Norway, Switzerland and Japan, also in the country’s capital. The initiative was defended by the Austrian ambassador, Stefan Scholz, who highlighted that with COP 30 being in Belém, it was necessary to integrate the region’s states into the world event.
“We want to give other states in the Amazon Region, such as Amapá, the opportunity to present their own strategies for a green economy, as we need to involve everyone if we want to be successful and, for the energy transition to happen, with national and international partnerships”highlighted the diplomat.
In November last year, Amapá’s representation was highlighted at the 28th United Nations Conference on Climate Change, (COP 38), in Dubai. The state presented its sustainable green and bioeconomy potential, for environmental development and wealth generation.
“We were at COP 28, which was significant and important, and we are already dealing with COP 29, but COP 30 could not just be for a single city. It cannot be the Amazon COP if it does not have Roraima, Amazonas, and the other states in the region. So, Belém, which is making a huge effort for COP 30, will be the main headquarters, but with full support from Macapá, which will also be the sub-headquarters of this sister city that I have so much affection for in our region”finished Clécio Luís.
