The governor of Amapá, Clécio Luís, delivered to the Civil House of the Presidency of the Republic a more detailed project of the works that will prepare the state to host events before and during COP30, considered the COP of the Amazon, in 2025. At the meeting in Brasília-DF, strategies were outlined to guarantee the investments necessary to hold the event.

The world meeting of the United Nations (UN), which brings together several countries committed to climate protection policies, will be an opportunity to showcase the potential of Amapá, as the most preserved and protected state in Brazil.

“We made progress in the negotiations for the Amazon COP. We presented more projects, including some requested by Planalto. We want to show the world that our good environmental indicators can also boost our social and economic indicators”highlighted the governor.

Following the policy detailed in the Government Plan, to capture international events, with a focus on economic development, the governor also met with members of the Special Secretariat for Articulation and Monitoring of the Civil House and the mobilization for the organization of the Brazilian COP.

The proposal includes, among other investments, partnerships with financing of structural works that facilitate the daily lives of visitors. One of the focuses is the construction of the 1st Amapá Convention Center.

“We explained the Amapá concept at the COP and also made some requests that are very important for us, mainly for urban mobility and event infrastructure. These are works designed for COP30, but which remained as an investment for Amapá”, described the Secretary of Planning, Lucas Abrahao, who leads the organization of the pre-COP in Amapá.

The central programming of COP30 will be in Belém, capital of the state of Pará. In 2023, due to the unique characteristics of the region, the border with Europe and the preservation of forests, the Federal Government confirmed Amapá as the headquarters for preparatory programs for the world climate meeting.
