Government studies extending GLO in ports of Rio de Janeiro and Santos – 03/16/2024 – Panel
[ad_1]
The chances are high that the federal government will extend for another six months the GLO (Law and Order Guarantee) operation in ports and airports in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, employing military personnel from the Navy and Air Force.
The decree that authorized the operation runs until May, but there is an assessment that there was a inhibiting effect on organized crime and that it is necessary to act for longer in these areas.
Despite the prospect of an extension, authorities from the Ministry of Justice see a limited effect on the GLOs, as they consider that criminals start to use other ports and airports to traffic drugs and weapons, for example.
The military operates in the ports of Rio, Itaguaí (RJ) and Santos (SP), in addition to the airports of Galeão (RJ) and Guarulhos (SP).
