The government aid program for automakers will fund a discount of up to R$80,300 for trucks and R$99,400 for buses. The benefit, however, will only be valid for the consumer who delivers to the dealership a vehicle of the same category with at least twenty years of use. The conditions are set out in Provisional Measure 1,175, signed on Monday (5) by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

The total amount available for these two categories will be R$ 1 billion, of which R$ 700 million for cargo transport vehicles and R$ 300 million for passenger transport vehicles. The program will also have another R$ 500 million for the acquisition of cars and light commercial vehicles.

According to the MP, each automaker will be able to give discounts of up to R$ 10 million, and then it will be entitled to presumed credits from federal PIS and Cofins taxes.

The text establishes that, in order to be entitled to discounts for trucks or buses, the consumer will have to deliver to the dealership a vehicle of the same category, “in running conditions, with regular licensing for the year 2022 or a later year and with a date of original registration over twenty years”.

The idea, according to the government, is to renew the fleet. “The delivery of old vehicles to scrap metal should bring additional gains to the industry, including the drop in the price of the raw material used by foundries”, said the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC) in a note.

The sponsored discounts for the purchase of trucks will be:

  • R$ 33.6 thousand for semi-light cargo transport vehicles;
  • BRL 38,000 for light vehicles;
  • R$ 45 thousand for medium;
  • BRL 60,000 for semi-heavy vehicles; It is
  • BRL 80.3 thousand for heavy vehicles.

In the case of passenger transport vehicles, the sponsored discounts will be:

  • BRL 38,000 for vehicles for up to twenty passengers mounted on a monoblock;
  • BRL 60,000 for vehicles for up to twenty passengers mounted on chassis;
  • BRL 70,000 for vehicles for more than twenty passengers for urban use; It is
  • R$ 99.4 thousand for vehicles for more than twenty passengers for road use.

Access to the program will be restricted in the first fifteen days. Within this period, sponsored discounts for cargo and passenger transport vehicles will only be valid for individuals, self-employed transporters, individual micro-entrepreneurs (MEIs), micro-enterprises and small businesses. This period may be extended, for equal periods, at the discretion of the MDIC.
