The Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) government should signal aid to municipalities that still have their own Social Security systems during the March of Mayors, which will take place between March 27th and 30th.

The idea was to announce contributions to reduce deficits in municipal systems, but neither the legal model nor the financial impact were ready in time for the event. In this way, the ad must be restricted to the intention of prioritizing the agenda.

Based on the diagnosis made by the federal administration, most cities have problems with their social security systems. The matter is still being dealt with by the Ministry of Finance.

Data from TCU (Tribunal de Contas da União) show that, in 2021, the accumulated deficit in municipal regimes was R$ 5.3 billion. The theme is a reason for so much concern that there will be a specific seminar on the subject within the March’s schedule.

As Lula is due to embark on the trip to China, the government will be represented by the Vice President of the Republic, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB).

The Planalto also tried to find a solution to the difficulty that the municipalities have encountered in adapting to the Bidding Law, but this issue also did not advance.

The new rules will come into force on the 1st of this month, but there are doubts as to their application, and some cities have asked for an extension of the deadline.
