Former director general of the Federal Police Luiz Fernando Corrêa should be appointed by the Civil House to head the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin). A retired delegate, he commanded the PF during the Lula government between 2007 and 2011. According to the Jota portal, the president met with Corrêa last Thursday (2) at the Planalto Palace.

The purpose of the nomination would be to remove Abin from the military wing. The expectation is that the body will be detached from the Institutional Security Office (GSI) and transferred to the Civil House. Currently, Abin is commanded on an interim basis by career employee Saulo Moura da Cunha. Corrêa’s name faces resistance from part of the agency’s employees, who defend that the command should remain with intelligence officers.

Between 2003 and 2007, Corrêa served as national secretary for Public Security at the Ministry of Justice. He was one of those responsible for creating the National Force. He was head of the PF between 2007 and 2011. In 2016, he was Director of Security for the Olympic Committee.
