Government seeks points of contact with the moderate wing of agro – 06/15/2023 – Panel

Despite recognizing that agriculture has an ideological problem with his government, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) has not given up trying to build bridges with the sector.

One of the instances where this is being worked on is the Conselhão, which held a thematic meeting with representatives of the segment this week.

The government assesses that there is a portion of the field more permeable to the debate. Entities such as the Pensar Agro Institute, linked to the ruralist group, the Brazilian Rural Society and the National Confederation of Agriculture, take part.

Although they are unanimous in criticizing the MST (Movement of Landless Rural Workers), these more moderate sectors agree to debate a common agenda. The government identifies discussions on financing, fertilizers and land titling as points of contact.

The biggest difficulty is representativeness, since several rural producers do not feel contemplated by the leaders with whom the government has been talking.
