The government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will extend the due dates of federal taxes for residents of cities on the north coast of São Paulo, a region that suffered from heavy rains during Carnival.

Ordinance of the Ministry of Finance, published in this Tuesday’s edition (7) of the Official Gazette, extended until the end of June this year the due date of federal taxes for taxpayers domiciled in the municipalities of Guarujá, Bertioga, São Sebastião, Caraguatatuba, Ilhabela and Ubatuba.

The region on the north coast of São Paulo was hard hit by heavy rains that caused landslides, interruption of highways and left at least 65 dead.

The ordinance published this Tuesday (7) cites the decree of a state of public calamity in these cities, to allow the extension of tax due dates.

The taxes whose maturities have been extended apply to those that should be paid in the months of February, March and April 2023, including installment payments and other agreements entered into administratively.

It also applies to statements that should be delivered during this period to the Special Secretariat of Federal Revenue.

“It is suspended, from February 19 to May 31, 2023, the counting of deadlines for the practice of procedural acts within the scope of the RFB, in relation to administrative processes of interest to taxpayers domiciled in the Municipalities”, states the text of the act

The annual income tax return, however, this year will have a longer term. Taxpayers will have from March 15 to May 31. In general, tax delivery began on the first working day of March and continued until the end of April.

The act specifies that this special regime does not apply to taxes covered by the Unified Special Regime for the Collection of Taxes and Contributions due by Micro and Small Businesses (Simples Nacional).
