State and Union study integration of territorial planning and land regularization

Manaus (AM) – The Government of Amazonas started, this Friday (23), talks with the Federal Government and the German company Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) about future institutional partnerships aimed at advancing and integrating public policies for territorial ordering and land regularization throughout the state.

The meeting, held at the Government headquarters, in the Compensa neighborhood, west of Manaus, was led by the deputy governor of the State, Tadeu de Souza, representing Governor Wilson Lima. Currently, Amazonas has the largest area of land in the country, that is, unregulated land, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Development (MDA).

During the meeting, Tadeu de Souza presented the current panorama of the state’s territorial organization. Of the 155.9 million hectares of territorial extension in Amazonas, 52.2 million belong to the State and 106.1 million are land owned by the Union, as indicated by surveys by state departments.

“We had a very efficient meeting in which we dealt with various topics involving the territorial organization of the Amazon. The Deputy Governor is available to make these articulations and connections between the different cooperation entities to help in the Wilson Lima government’s decision-making”, stressed the Deputy Governor.

Strategic planning

The MDA’s general coordinator of Land Policies, Victor Amaral Fernandes, highlighted that the Union intends to strengthen relations with Amazonas for a joint management of state and federal territories still without regularization. The idea is to build a strategic and sustainable plan, in tune with the socioeconomic context of the state.

“First, we make this approximation, make a more institutional cooperation to go designing this partnership further forward, in a more customized way according to the reality of each state”

explained the MDA representative, noting that this work takes place within the scope of the Federal Government’s Technical Disposal Chamber (CTD).

The partnerships that the MDA plans to sign with all the states that make up the Brazilian Amazon are monitored by the German technical cooperation company GIZ. According to the agency’s technical advisor, Ana Cláudia Chaves, a new agreement is also underway at the federal level.

“The issue of land regularization is a crucial issue for us in cooperation. We are, today, in Brasilia, discussing a new cooperation agreement with the Brazilian government through the MDA. And our main objective is to support the processes of organizational development, strategic planning and also the decision-making of the bodies”

scored.

The head of the Secretary of State for Cities and Territories (Sect), João Carlos Braga, and the general coordinator of the MDA state office in Amazonas (MDA/AM), José Ricardo Wendling, also participated in the meeting.
