Government omits exclusion of 700 thousand from Bolsa Família and reduction of value in July

The Ministry of Development announced this Tuesday (18) that the federal government has included 1.3 million families in Bolsa Família since March, when the program was relaunched, but omitted that the number of beneficiaries was reduced between the end of last year. and this year, as well as the average benefit amount.

The calculation of Power360 confirmed by People’s Gazette points out that, on December 31, 2022 (the last day of the government of former President Jair Bolsonaro, PL), when it was still called Auxílio Brasil, the program had 21.6 million beneficiaries, against 20.9 million informed by the ministry . The average value, however, increased from BRL 607 in that month to BRL 684 in July 2023.

However, this month’s payment is lower than last month, when it was R$705 omitted by the ministry.

Since the beginning of this year, the government has started to comb through the registers of families benefiting from the program, and has already excluded at least 2.7 million of them. Part of it is data included in the second half of last year, when 3.7 million started receiving Bolsa Família.

Information on new memberships was published on the ministry’s official website (see full text), which states that an “active search” made the expansion possible. “Since March, when Bolsa Família was relaunched by the Federal Government, 1.3 million families have been included in the program. The active search action is largely responsible for the new concessions, focusing on the most vulnerable people who are entitled to supplementary income, but do not receive the benefit”.

Another text on the ministry’s website confirms the lower average value of the benefit (see the full text): “this month, 20.9 million families are covered, totaling an investment of R$ 14 billion. The average amount received by each family in the country is R$ 684.17”. In June, the government claims to have paid the highest average amount in history, R$ 705.40 (see full text).

Still according to Power360the cut reached 702 thousand beneficiaries and was greater in the states of Bahia (-107.1 thousand), Rio de Janeiro (-104.8 thousand) and São Paulo (-90.2 thousand).

The omission of data occurs at a time when Minister Wellington Dias is in the crosshairs of centrão parties to be removed from the portfolio. The government recognized that it has been talking to the subtitles to expand their presence on the Esplanada and improve the government base in the Chamber of Deputies.
