Government of SP exempts goods donated to rain victims – 02/25/2023 – Panel

The government of São Paulo will exempt the collection of ICMS (Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services) on donations of goods made by companies to the Social Fund of São Paulo or to public utility assistance entities for those affected by the rains on the north coast.
The measure, announced by the administration Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), foresees that the donating companies keep the tax credit related to the goods benefiting from the exemption.
In the case of donations to charitable entities, it is necessary that they are recognized as being of public utility, with certification by the competent federal authority.
Since the occurrence of the tragedy, on the Carnival holiday, the São Paulo government has already announced several economic measures to help the affected population. Among them, the release of financing lines from Banco do Povo, and loans to municipalities and companies in the affected regions.
