The Government of Amapá received representatives of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), agency of the United Nations (UN), to address immigrants’ access to rights such as health, education, security and social assistance. The meeting lasted two days and ended on Wednesday, 14.
A technical team from the Government of Amapá accompanied the group to the Port of Santana to update information on the migration flows of migrants passing through the ports of Amapá. “Our job as a technical agency of the United Nations is to support the capabilities of local public authorities for the dignified and efficient reception of people who are forced to move from their countries of origin”, scored. For the coordinator of the Casa de Passagem de Refugiados Cáritas do Amapá, Maria Raimunda de Oliveira, the moment of dialogue was important to identify the need to create a service network for immigrants in Amapá.
“In 2023, we already served around 20 people, including men, women and children. The creation of a network that works together is crucial to provide dignity to those people who need shelter”said Mary.
