The government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) decided to include 14 more stretches of federal highways in the National Privatization Program (PND), the first step towards auctioning the modes to the private sector.

According to the decree published this Wednesday (31) in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU), the new stage includes seven roads located in Rio Grande do Sul, three in Mato Grosso, two in Goiás and two more in Rondônia (see in full ). With this, the program now has 96 stretches of federal highways scheduled for auction.

See below which sections become part of the National Privatization Program:

The decree was signed by Lula and Minister Rui Costa, from the Civil House, and amends the legislation created in 1997 that established the program. The inclusion of new sections occurs one day after the president signed concession contracts for more than 1,100 kilometers of state and federal highways in Paraná, with investments of R$30.4 billion in works and operational costs.

On the other hand, Lula keeps seven state-owned companies outside the PND that were scheduled to be privatized, such as Correios (ECT), Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC), Dataprev, Nuclebras Equipamentos Pesados (Nuclep), the Federal Processing Service of Data (Serpro), the Brazilian Agency for Guarantee Funds and Guarantees (ABGF) and the National Center for Advanced Electronic Technology (Ceitec).
