Maximum period for temporary leave requested remotely was extended to 180 days. The government increased this Friday (21), from 90 to 180 days, the period of temporary removal due to illness, which is done remotely without having to schedule a medical examination with the National Institute of Social Security (INSS). Previously, the request for sickness benefit only with the certificate and remotely could only be made in locations where the waiting time for the examination to be carried out was longer than 30 days. And the benefit could only be granted for 90 days. The new conditions for requesting the aid were published in a joint ordinance of the Ministry of Social Security and the INSS. According to the ministry, the measure “adds to the initiatives adopted to end queues for appointments to carry out medical expertise”. Now, the worker will be able to request the benefit for up to 6 months, through the following service channels: ‘Meu INSS’ app and website; call center, by number 135; Social Security agencies; contracted entities. The worker will have to present medical or dental documentation, containing the information: full name; date of issuance of the documentation, which cannot be more than 90 days from the date of application; full diagnosis or the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) code; doctor’s signature; start date of rest or removal from work activities; Estimated period of leave, in days. In the case of temporary disability due to an accident, the worker will have to present the Work Accident Report (CAT) issued by the employer. When the benefit cannot be granted because of non-compliance with the requirements or for exceeding the maximum period of 180 days, the worker must undergo a medical examination at the INSS. Anyone who has already had an exam scheduled can choose to make the request remotely, as long as they respect the 30-day period between the date of the appointment and the date of the remote request.
