Government denies that the release of R$ 5.3 billion in amendments influenced the approval of the tax reform

Minister Alexandre Padilha, of Institutional Relations, denied this Friday (7) that the approval of the tax reform project, with 380 votes in the first round and 375 in the second round, was due to the release of R$ 5.3 billion in amendments in just one day.

According to him, the approval is “in line” with what the government planned for the first half of the year in Congress, and that he is open to talking with all parties to be part of the base, of “expanding the government, expanding support policy”.

“Anyone who says that there is a relationship between the release of amendments and the vote of parliamentarians is committing two profound mistakes: first, it is ignoring a calendar that is established by the Budgetary Guidelines Law (LDO) especially in relation to the imposing amendments that the government has to execute. , until the end of April for parliamentarians to make reallocations. And, from the beginning of May, we have been complying with this schedule”, he said.

The second mistake, he says, is that of “downgrading the importance of the tax reform issue”, which is not justified in view of the 380 votes to approve the project. “Tax reform unifies taxes, will reduce the cost of businessmen and traders who want to create jobs,” he added.

Padilha also stated that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) called the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), earlier to “make an institutional thank you” and say that he “respects” the work that the house had already been doing in the discussion of the reform. “We expect a very effective contribution from the Senate,” he said of the bill’s vote in the reviewing house, which could take place on the return of the parliamentary recess.

Reorganization of the Esplanade

Minister Alexandre Padilha also stated that there is still no definition on the reorganization of ministries, but that he has been having frequent meetings with parties to discuss “the entry into government of other political forces”, mainly parliamentarians who have already been allies in the past and those who approached the government after the acts of January 8.

The minister said that the change in the Ministry of Tourism, with the departure of Daniela Carneiro (União Brasil-RJ) and the entry of Celso Sabino (União Brasil-PA), should have an outcome next week. For this Friday (7), when there was a forecast to complete the replacement, the day will be reserved for dialogues with the party.
