A delegation from the federal government, with president Lula (PT) and nine ministers of his government, traveled to the state of Roraima this morning since Saturday (21st) to verify the situation of the Yanomami indigenous people. The state governor, Antonio Denarium (PP), accompanied the group.

This Friday (20), the Ministry of Health declared a state of emergency to combat the lack of health care that affects the ethnic group in the state. According to the government, the health crisis has resulted in the deaths of 570 children due to malnutrition and health issues in recent years.

After visiting the indigenous hospital and the Indigenous Health Support House, the president said that the condition of the ethnic group is inhumane and announced that the government will provide transportation and medical care to the indigenous people and will combat illegal mining.

On Friday, Lula also decreed the creation of the National Coordination Committee, with the aim of proposing measures to provide assistance to the ethnic group. An action plan must be submitted within 45 days.
