Minister Alexandre Padilha, of Institutional Relations, confirmed this Tuesday (4) that União Brasil is reviewing the nominees by the bench to the Esplanada of the Ministries of the Lula government, and that the name of Celso Sabino (PA) is right to occupy a portfolio.

The deputy was already quoted to take over the Ministry of Tourism in place of Daniela Carneiro (RJ), who asked for authorization from the Electoral Justice to disaffiliate from União Brasil. Although she belongs to the party, she was appointed to the portfolio in the “personal quota” of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

“Our expectation is that we can have, throughout this week, conclusive meetings on this topic”, said Padilha in an interview with CNN Brasil, mentioning that even the PT may want to discuss names on the Esplanada.

In addition to the Tourism portfolio, União Brasil also holds the Ministries of Communications, with deputy Juscelino Filho (MA), and that of National Integration, led by the former governor of Amapá Waldez Góes, who left the PDT to assume the portfolio by indication of senator Davi Alcolumbre (AP).

Watching the Opposition

Padilha also confirmed that the government has been constantly talking to opposition parties to seek support for priority agendas – mainly economic.

The minister stated that he had already spoken with Ciro Nogueira (PI), president of the PP, and Marcos Pereira (ES), president of the Republicans. According to him, “several parliamentarians from these parties” have already voted with the government on projects such as Bolsa Família, Mais Médicos, among others.

“We are open to discussions with all parties that want to assume an agenda of commitments. There is this moment of reorganization of União Brasil nominees and we have an open agenda to discuss with the other parties the willingness to be within the government”, he said, adding that he also maintains dialogue with leaders of the PL in the Chamber of Deputies and in the Senate.

Despite being organizing relations with the opposition, Padilha stressed that Lula is not thinking of running for re-election in 2026.
