Government and Next Hydrogen negotiate production of green hydrogen in Amapá – News of Brazil

The State Government and the company Next Hydrogen, headquartered in the United Kingdom, started on Tuesday (17) negotiations for the development and construction in Amapá of a productive complex of green hydrogen and green ammonia.
The proposal has the potential for large-scale production of clean energy, the decarbonization of production chains such as cement, steel and agriculture, and help Brazil achieve the international goals assumed by the country to zero carbon emissions.
The initiative was presented by company representatives in a virtual meeting with Governor Clécio Luís and Secretary of State for International Relations and Foreign Trade, Lucas Abrahao.
The novelty focuses on generating clean energy more cheaply for export, but can be consumed by the domestic market. The project in Amapá will have as its first phase the construction and start-up of a 5GW production unit by the 1st quarter of 2024.
“I am excited about what we have in store for Amapá. In such a short time in government, it’s good to be having this conversation. Amapá is the most preserved state in Brazil, with 73% of protected areas, we have wind potential, solar energy, abundant water and a port strategically located. We provide environmental services to the planet. We will do whatever is necessary to implement and make this project work in our state”, said the governor.
Considering the leadership that Amapá has in environmental protection, the company Next Hydrogen has also committed itself to being a private financier of the International Fund for the Amazon. Representatives and a technical team will soon visit the state to study the viability of the location of the production complex.
“We are going to Brazil to stay and we will stay for the long term. We will not repeat the historical experience of companies that went to the Amazon and then left without delivering what they promised. We will deliver everything we are committed to and we want to show the world that Amapá can be the great global example of green hydrogen projects for energy”, said Next Hydrogen co-founder Wesley Paul.
The company seeks support from the government of Amapá for the local implementation of the business, including tax benefits, environmental licensing and the location of the production structures.
“We will bring direct foreign investment from private funds to all operations, not requiring a contribution of funds from the state of Amapá, nor from the federal government of Brazil. What we want from Amapá and Brazil is not money, it is support for the implementation of the business, and a long-term partnership”, said another co-founder of Next Hydrogen, Javier Romero.
Also participating in the meeting was Milton Deiró Neto, Honorary Consul of the United Kingdom in Bahia, who has worked in Amapá and is now active in innovation projects on a national and global scale.
