Government and Armed Forces align security policies and environmental protection in the Amazon

Deputy Governor Tadeu de Souza led a debate, together with the Army, Navy and Air Force, at the Glocal Experience Amazônia

Manaus (AM) – The deputy governor of Amazonas, Tadeu de Souza, moderated this Monday (28) the discussions of the panel “Sovereignty and Security in the Amazon”, during the third and last day of the first edition of the Glocal Experience Amazônia. The debate was held on the “Desafios e Soluções” Stage, set up in the Palace of Justice, located in the central region of Manaus.

With the support of the Government of Amazonas, the Glocal Experience Amazônia addresses sustainability challenges aligned with the 2030 Agenda and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. On the occasion, the deputy governor highlighted that thematic events like this also serve to reinforce cooperation between institutions that work in defense of the biome and people.

“It is the opportunity to address issues that are sensitive to the Amazon, which are sensitive to national sovereignty, in addition to the development of biotechnology, the protection of natural resources within the heritage of the Brazilian Amazon, which is led by national forces. Above all, an opportunity to align and show the public how cooperation between these institutions is carried out”,

observed Tadeu de Souza.

Speakers at the panel were the commanders of the Seventh Regional Air Command (VII Comar), Air Brigadier General David Almeida Alcoforado; and from the 9th Naval District, vice-admiral Thadeu Marcos Orosco Coelho Lobo; in addition to the head of the Operations Coordination Center of the Military Command of the Amazon (CMA), General Carlos Alberto Rodrigues Pimentel.

Amazon reality

During the debates, the lieutenant governor highlighted the importance of coordinated action by the State with the Army, Navy and Air Force. Endorsing recent statements by Governor Wilson Lima, Tadeu de Souza said that the Amazon should be discussed from the point of view of those who truly live and know the reality of the region in different aspects.

“These are themes that directly involve the interest of those who live in the Amazon, the Amazonians. Brazilian men and women who, often, from the point of view of those in other parts of the country, are made invisible. But, here, the themes were addressed by those who live in the Amazon, by those who know the Amazon and by those who are interested in improving the quality of life of those who live in the Amazon”,

The discussions were accompanied by students and professionals in the area of ​​public security; in addition to the head of the Environmental Attorney’s Office (PMA) of the State Attorney General’s Office (PGE-AM), Luis Eduardo Mendes Dantas; the executive director of Glocal, Rodrigo Baggio; the CEO of Grupo Rede Amazônica, Phelippe Daou Junior; and the president of the Academia Amazonense de Letras (AAL), Robério Braga.
