Google hires Temer for negotiations on big techs – 06/30/2023 – Politics

Former president Michel Temer was hired by Google to help negotiate the regulation of internet platforms. According to Temer confirmed to the Sheethe has been acting for about three weeks with “mediation” with parliamentarians.

The former president was with deputy Orlando Silva (PC do B-SP) to discuss points of PL 2630, the PL of Fake News, reported by the parliamentarian in the Chamber.

Today, the Marco Civil da Internet, a 2014 law that establishes that platforms can only be held civilly liable after a court order to remove content, is valid. With the PL, platforms could be punished for certain illegal content after extra-judicial notification.

Temer said he had not held conversations with ministers of the Federal Supreme Court. The STF must decide on two extraordinary resources that may make the Civil Rights Framework for the Internet more flexible. The decision was scheduled for June, but was postponed.

Minister Alexandre de Moraes, appointed by Temer, is one of the biggest advocates of increasing the accountability of platforms. He opened an inquiry to investigate Google leaders for campaigning against the Fake News PL
