Journalist Glenn Greenwald and former federal deputy David Miranda (PDT-RJ), who died in May this year, were illegally spied on by Abin (Brazilian Intelligence Agency) during the administration of Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

The information is from the newspaper O Globo. According to the publication, the two are on the list of journalists, lawyers and politicians opposing Bolsonaro between 2019 and 2021. At the time, Alexandre Ramagem, now federal deputy (PL-RJ), was in charge of the agency.

The PF (Federal Police) investigation reveals a secret cell phone monitoring system using tracking software, according to the report.

The list included 1,800 telephones, which were delivered by the current management of Abin, from the Lula (PT) government, to the STF (Supreme Federal Court), as determined by Minister Alexandre de Moraes.

Last Friday (20), the PF launched an operation to investigate the irregular tracking of the geolocation of opponents of the Bolsonaro government. 25 search and seizure warrants and two preventive arrest warrants were executed in the states of São Paulo (2), Santa Catarina (3), Paraná (2) and Goiás (1), in addition to the Federal District (17).

Two civil servants suspected of coercion were arrested — Rodrigo Colli and Eduardo Arthur Yzycky, according to the Sheet found out.

In addition to searches and arrests, minister Alexandre de Moraes ordered the removal of Paulo Maurício Fortunato Pinto, current number 3 at Abin, and four other employees.

Abin released a statement, on Friday, stating that the servers targeted by the PF were removed as a precautionary measure and that the secret monitoring system stopped being used in May 2021.

According to the agency, the internal process opened by the general inspectorate regarding the use of spy software was concluded on February 23 of this year. Based on the conclusions, an investigative investigation was opened on March 21.
