Gleisi criticizes fiscal rule and aggravates divergences PT-Lula – 04/10/2023 – Market

The president of the PT, Gleisi Hoffmann (PR), made reservations this Monday (10) to the proposal for a fiscal rule presented by the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, to replace the spending ceiling. During a meeting of the party’s National Directorate, she stated that the proposed framework threatens to inhibit economic growth.

Gleisi’s statements were made at the end of the afternoon, hours after President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) defended Haddad. In a meeting to review the first hundred days of his government, Lula said he was certain that the country would reap the fruits planted by the proposal.

At the PT meeting, Gleisi again criticized the interest rates practiced in the country. His concern is that there is a combination of a restrictive monetary policy with a fiscal execution that also inhibits growth.

The PT president also said that the Minister of Finance himself will be invited to talk about the framework design. During the meeting, PT members questioned the fact that they were unaware of the content of the project to be formally presented by the government later this week.
