Lula makes amends to Haddad and criticizes pessimists – 04/10/2023 – Politics

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said this Monday (10th) that, if he is going to govern thinking of pessimists, it is better to give up. He also took advantage of his speech, at the balance sheet meeting of the one hundred days of government at the Planalto Palace, to make amends to the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, and demand measures from incumbents, directly or not.

“Nobody believes in the government that wakes up every day [e diz]: ‘Ah, GDP is not going to grow, ah because the economy is not very good, ah because the IMF said such a thing, ah because the World Bank said such a thing, ah because the financial market said such a thing’. Look, if we’re going to govern thinking about that, it’s better to give up.
It is important that these people tell us to do something different from what they want us to do”, said Lula.

The president’s speech opens the meeting with the 37 ministers and three government leaders in Congress. The first lady, Rosângela da Silva, known as Janja, also participated in the meeting, despite not yet having an official position in the Planalto.

Lula 3 completes one hundred days under criticism from allies, who complain about obstacles to launching projects and the lack of a new brand to the PT’s new mandate. The representative himself has been demanding members of the first echelon for deliveries in the last meetings, as shown by the Sheet.

Until then, point out ministers and parliamentarians aligned with the Planalto, the government recycled old programs and was the scene of clashes between members of the ministerial team, who publicly disagreed about the launch of government proposals.

On Monday, the representative praised the project for the new fiscal framework presented by Haddad and criticized by supporters, such as deputy Lindbergh Farias (PT-RJ), in an interview with Sheet.

“Haddad, from time to time I know you hear some criticism, I have to praise you and the team that worked because certainly, when it comes to the economy, when it comes to tax policy, we will never have 100% solidarity” , said the president.

“I, this week, saw a very bad article against you, I thought I would reply, my conciliator, the [Alexandre] Padilha, thought it wasn’t worth it, better to keep quiet, because society’s understanding of what was done is worth more than a criticism of a person”, he added.

But the president insisted on reinforcing his criticism of the basic interest rate (Selic), set today at 13.75% per year by the Central Bank’s Copom (Monetary Policy Committee). “I keep thinking that they are playing with the country, playing especially with the poor people and with businessmen who want to invest. They just don’t see who doesn’t want to.”

In those 100 days in office, one of Lula’s main clashes was with the BC and its leader, Roberto Campos Neto, over the interest rate.

If, on the one hand, Lula came out in defense of his minister, on the other, he publicly demanded it. “Let’s unwind, for God’s sake,” she said, referring to Unwrap.

The program, which he refers to and asks the head of the Treasury to take off the ground, is a campaign promise and one of Lula’s main bets.

The program will have a R$10 billion guarantee fund to help renegotiate debts contracted by 37 million Brazilians. But technical difficulties in the development of the system delayed the launch of the initiative.

The holder of the Treasury was not the only one charged. To the Minister of Social Security, Carlos Lupi, with whom the Planalto had quarrels at the beginning of his government, Lula said he had seen news in the press about queues for Social Security.

“I don’t know what’s going on in Social Security, but I wanted to tell you that one day we ended the queue, one day the worker did not need to present a document to apply for retirement, it was the Social Security that sent a document to that person. (… ) A day when a medical examination took 9 months to be scheduled, we reduced it to 105 days.

At another point, Lula said that reports have reached him about people who cannot be assisted in public health and asked Minister Nísia Trindade (Health) to provide a way to make consultations with specialists more accessible to the population. He suggested to her a kind of agreement with specialists.

The representative also mentioned cases of people found in a situation of slave labor or similar to slavery. “One thing has to be said, we don’t have to be respectful with these people. The law has to be tough, it’s not possible, in the 21st century, for people to know that this country still has slave labor”, he said.

The president also told minister Cida Gonçalves (Women), that it is necessary to think deeply about combating violence against women. “More toughness on our part, because it’s turning into a lot of fascist grown men’s spree,” she said.

Lula’s charges to his ministers are not new. In recent meetings, he has been asking for new announcements, new measures.

Regarding the lack of a new brand, the president’s assistants claim that the government’s slogan is “Union and Reconstruction”, which justifies the relaunch of initiatives from previous administrations, such as Minha Casa, Minha Vida and Bolsa Família, resumed in instead of Auxilio Brasil, and that they came back with a boost.

A note referring to the date released by Secom (Secretary of Communication of the Presidency) highlights investments in education and health, respect for human rights and environmental policies, in addition to combating coup d’état, all under the slogan “Brazil is back”.

“In 100 days, a new Brazil. Capable of facing up to coup attempts and having hope again. Prepared to face the food insecurity that afflicts 33 million Brazilians and obstinate to leave the Hunger Map once again. (.. .) In little more than three months, Brazil returned”, says the text.

Among the measures, there is the provision of R$ 600 million to help states and municipalities to reduce surgery queues. Under More Doctors, 15,000 jobs were created.

In terms of housing, since the beginning of the year, 5,693 homes have been delivered. According to Secom, the government’s goal is to hire 2 million homes by the end of the mandate. They also highlighted the project that instituted the Law on Equal Salary and Remuneration between Women and Men.

The campaign slogan launched by the government also coincides with a phrase used in 2018 by the Michel Temer (MDB) government.

The phrase “Brazil has returned” was used by Temer when he completed two years in the Presidency. Temer was vice president of Dilma Rousseff (PT) and took office after her impeachment, a process that PT members call a coup.

Initially, Temer’s slogan was “Brazil has returned, 20 years in 2”, but the ambiguity it caused when the phrase was read meant that this complement was withdrawn.

The motto of the Lula government 3 released from the video on the president’s social networks over the weekend. In the images, what would be the return of the value of culture, the environment and international respect, among other themes defended by the new government, especially in contrast to the mandate of Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

In another material released this Monday morning, the government admits that there is still work to be done and says that 100 days is “just the beginning”.

“There’s still a lot to fix, it’s true. The government is only completing 100 days. But it’s already giving to see a light at the end of the tunnel. There are still 1360 days of hard work to rebuild the smile on the face of every Brazilian and every Brazilian”, says the announcer of the video.
