The Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Gilmar Mendes ordered an investigation into the alleged omission of Bolsonaro government authorities in the management of the Covid pandemic. The magistrate annulled a decision by the Federal Court of the Federal District that partially archived the investigation. The process is conducted in secrecy.
Gilmar Mendes determined that the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) analyze the Federal Police report on the case and reassess whether there are signs of crimes in the conduct of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL); the former Minister of Health, Eduardo Pazuello (PL-RJ); the former number 2 of the portfolio, Colonel Elcio Franco; the former secretary of Work Management and Health Education, Mayra Pinheiro; the former president of the Federal Council of Medicine, Mauro Luiz Ribeiro; and the former Secretary of Communication for the Presidency, Fabio Wajngarten.
They are investigated for alleged epidemic crimes resulting in death, irregular use of public funds, prevarication and false reporting of crime.
For the minister, the Federal Justice acted irregularly in archiving the investigation, since Pazuello, who is currently a federal deputy, has privileged jurisdiction. As a result, the case must proceed to the Supreme Court. The action was opened from the calculation made by the Covid CPI.
The Public Prosecutor Marcia Brandão Zollingerse manifested herself for the partial shelving of the investigations. She considered that there was no evidence of crime. The opinion had been upheld by the Federal Court of the DF.
