Minister Gilmar Mendes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), decided to suspend, this Tuesday (4/4), the application of the so-called “presumption of good faith” in the gold trade, identified as a determinant for the advance of mining. illegal.

In the Precautionary Measure, the minister determined that the government should take measures such as the adoption of “measures (legislative, regulatory and/or administrative) that make the acquisition of gold extracted from areas of environmental protection and Indigenous Lands unfeasible”, says the document.

According to Mendes, “this spurious consortium, formed between illegal mining and criminal organizations, needs to be paralyzed as soon as possible”. He also pointed out that “the provision of a precautionary measure, by the Federal Supreme Court, is the appropriate and necessary means for that”.

The minister also determined that the federal government should adopt, within 90 days, a new set of rules for the inspection of the gold trade, especially the verification of the origin of the product.
