Gilmar Mendes mocks Deltan’s Pix: ‘you can found a church’ – 07/15/2023 – Politics

Minister Gilmar Mendes, of the STF (Federal Supreme Court) said this Saturday that the impeached federal deputy Deltan Dallagnol (Podemos-PR) can now “open a church”, mocking the “rain of Pix” that the former coordinator of Operation Lava Jato says he received it after leaving the Chamber of Deputies.

The statements took place at an event by the Prerogativas group, made up of lawyers, jurists and public defenders, in honor of Sepúlveda Pertence, a former Supreme Court minister who died on July 2, aged 85.

“These days I saw Dallagnol saying that when he left the Chamber and was on the plane, Pix began to rain. It is the new contact with spirituality, the spirituality of money. He can certainly found a church”, said the magistrate.

Gilmar also criticized the operation, which ended in 2021, and said it was necessary to rethink the model of action of the Public Ministry, pointing out failures in the supervisory bodies in giving sufficient autonomy to Lava Jato.

The minister also said it was necessary to correct errors in the country’s justice structure, and stated that the “model [Sergio] Moro-Dallagnol”, referring to the way both acted in Curitiba, was not successful. “We are going to organize a forward escape, we are going to save the judiciary from this great scandal”, he reiterated.

“The Public Ministry continues to be an extremely important institution. The fight against corruption in Brazil is fundamental. Now, don’t believe that you are the fourth branch, because you are not. your paper.”

On June 12, Deltan posted a video on social media thanking Pix transfers received from his supporters, stating that the gesture would be an “expression of solidarity”. The impeached congressman also called the donors “agents of God in his life”.

Six days earlier, the Board of Directors of the Chamber had declared the loss of the deputy’s mandate, in compliance with the decision of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) of May 16, when, unanimously, Deltan’s candidacy registration was revoked, and, consequently, his office in the legislature.

“I imagined God answering the following: when did I allow you and your family to be touched? When you were condemned to pay more than R$ 100 thousand for PowerPoint, I didn’t make it rain more than 12 thousand Pix in less than 36 hours in your account? It wasn’t more than half a million reais without you opening your mouth to ask? When did you see anything like that, man of little faith? Don’t be afraid. Be strong and courageous”, said the former Lava Jato prosecutor .
