Genoino denies being anti-Semitic and says he has to denounce genocide against Palestinians – 01/22/2024 – Panel

Former federal deputy José Genoino said this Monday (22) that he repudiated a note from Conib (Israeli Confederation of Brazil) about his speech regarding a boycott of Jewish companies in Brazil, denied being anti-Semitic and stated that he had an obligation to denounce the “Israeli government’s genocide against the Palestinian people.”

“I present my repudiation of the note from Conib (Israeli Confederation of Brazil) and I affirm that I am not and have never been anti-Semitic. I also repudiate any type of prejudice against the Jewish people and defend the existence of two States”, he said.

“We have an obligation to denounce the Israeli government’s genocide against the Palestinian people. I have tirelessly defended the ceasefire, peace between peoples and solidarity with the Palestinian people.”

Last Saturday (20), Genoino participated in a YouTube program on the left-wing website Diário do Centro do Mundo. He was

asked about the support given at the beginning of the year by President Lula (PT) to the complaint presented by South Africa to the International Court of Justice for Israel’s alleged genocide in the war against Hamas.

“I find this idea of ​​rejection interesting, this idea of ​​boycotting for political reasons that harm economic interests, it’s an interesting way. There’s even this boycott in relation to certain Jewish companies,” said the former federal deputy.

“There is, for example, a boycott of companies linked to the State of Israel. I even think that Brazil should cut commercial relations, in the area of ​​security and in the military area, with the State of Israel.”

“The boycott of Jews was one of the first measures adopted by the Nazi regime against the German Jewish community, which culminated in the Holocaust. Conib once again appeals to Brazilian political leaders to act with moderation and balance in the face of the tragic conflict in the Middle East, as His extreme speeches, which are at odds with the tradition of Brazilian foreign policy, could import the tensions in that region to our country.”

Because of Genoino’s statements, federal deputy Kim Kataguiri (União-SP) called the Public Ministry of the State of São Paulo to propose a liability action for collective moral damages caused to the Jewish community in Brazil because of the speeches to the left-wing website Diary of the Center of the World.
