Behind the scenes, deputies speak of “sabotage” of the work of the Chamber

Brasilia DF) – The government generated new dissatisfaction in the Chamber at a time when President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is trying to improve relations with deputies, who have been complaining about the treatment they receive from the Planalto Palace. Sanctioned on the 14th with 134 vetoes, the General Sports Law is yet another chapter of the malaise between the government and parliamentarians.

“A law that was much discussed and debated in the Chamber, including having a special commission, with more than 30 public hearings, with federations, athletes, referees, with the participation of Athletes for Brazil, which Minister Ana Moser herself is a part of… We keeps looking for where there was so much error on the part of Congress. How do you have a veto of 134 devices?”

said deputy Felipe Carreras (PSB-PE), coordinator of the Parliamentary Front in Defense of Sport and rapporteur of the bill in the Chamber.

“No one from the Chamber of Deputies was heard in this regard. We tried to equate the Sports Incentive Law to Culture. We think that Sport doesn’t have to be more than Culture, but it also doesn’t have to be less”

said Carreras.

A member of the government base, Carreras leads the so-called “block”, the largest alliance formed in the House in this legislature. With 173 deputies, the group includes parties such as the PP of the President of the House, Arthur Lira (AL), União Brasil, PSB, PDT and PSDB.

Centrão leaders saw the law sanctioning ceremony, with the presence of only the rapporteur in the Senate, as a discredit to the Chamber and went so far as to attribute the “message” from Planalto to the proximity that Carreras has with Lira. The party of the deputy from Alagoas claims greater space on the Esplanada, more specifically the command of the Ministry of Health, a claim that encounters resistance from those around the President of the Republic.

Centrão’s biggest mistrust, in this case, is with the Minister of the Institutional Relations Secretariat, Alexandre Padilha. The appointment of the current Minister of Health, Nísia Trindade, is attributed to the PT candidate.

Chamber leaders believe that a gaffe like this could even go unnoticed by Lula, but say that it was Padilha’s role, responsible for the political articulation of the Planalto with Congress, to warn that the project’s rapporteur in the Chamber should also have been called to the ceremony of sanction.
