GEA and ANA agree on water resources management in Amapá – News of Brazil

O Government of Amapá and the National Water and Sanitation Agency (A-N-A) formalized a technical note on the ‘Water Governance Pact’, this Wednesday, 24. The agreement, signed in March 2023, makes the state one of the pioneers in the collaborative commitment to perfecting and implementing public policies for water resources management and security of dams.
The policy was created to promote cooperation between the federal and state levels, strengthening the union and integration of strategic actions in the management of waters shared between each of Brazil’s 26 states and the Federal District.
The note includes an action plan constructed through workshops and meetings, involving technicians from ANA and the State Secretariat for the Environment (Sema), which was designated as responsible for coordinating and implementing the pact.
Collaboration between the institutions allowed Amapá to be included, in an unprecedented way, in the federal ‘Drought Monitor’ program, which has a network of state observers and a database of Amapá drought impacts. Monitoring will be carried out in the State Situation Room, which must be restructured for this new cycle.
Among the planned actions are also the improvement of water resources management through the shared use of the Federal Use Regulation System, the sharing of data on surface and underground waters, which aim to identify irregular uses and the strengthening of resource inspection services water and dams.
Amapá also joined the Program to Stimulate the Generation and Dissemination of Data and Information on Water Quality (QualiÁgua) and governance and financial sustainability actions through Progestion (Consolidation Program of the National Pact for Water Management).
ANA’s role will be to conduct biannual meetings to monitor the plan, discuss progress, identify obstacles and adjust strategies. The annual assessment is joint, followed by transparent reports and continuous adjustments to ensure efficiency in water management in Amapá.
