Galvão Bueno, 73, decided to give his opinion on the situation of Jorge Sampaoli, 63, in Flamengo. For the sports narrator, who was the main name of Globo’s broadcasts for decades, the Argentine coach should leave the club after striker Pedro was punched by the club’s physical trainer, Pablo Fernández.

“What happened at Flamengo is unacceptable”, he wrote on social networks about the incident, which took place on Saturday night (29), shortly after Flamengo’s victory over Atlético Mineiro for the Brazilian Championship. “A physical trainer attacks an idol, a national team player. The dismissal should have been immediate.”

In the wake of the case, several fans of the Rio de Janeiro club asked for Sampaoli’s resignation. Galvão agrees with them. “It has to mean the end of the line for Sampaoli,” he defended. “There’s no atmosphere for him anymore. He lost the locker room. He doesn’t have the respect of the players anymore.”

The fight occurred after the center forward had spent the entire match without entering the field. When two other forwards, Luiz Araújo and Everton, were called up for the game, Pedro left the warm-up area and sat on the bench. There was still a possible replacement to be made, but the athlete was irritated by the boss’s choices.

According to reports from other Flamengo players, the trainer considered the athlete’s attitude disrespectful, who retorted. The situation was taken to the locker room, where the chat turned into aggression. The other players took a stand in support of Pedro, who went to a police station to file a police report.

Fernández was fired by the club this Sunday (30).
