This year, Fuvest’s writing test had the theme “Basic education and professional training: between multitasking and reflection”. The second phase of tests to enter USP (University of São Paulo) takes place this Sunday (17) and Monday (18).

According to the institution, the dissertation phase has the participation of 30,787 candidates approved in the first phase who will compete for 8,147 places offered by USP, the best in Latin America, according to the QS ranking (Quacquarelli Symonds), and leader of the RUF (Folha University Ranking) .

The students had access to supporting texts to prepare the dissertation, which included social, anthropological, philosophical and even pedagogical approaches, presented by the philosopher Byung-Chul Han, author of “Sociedade do Fatigue”, and the sociologist Domenico de Masi, from “Creative leisure”.

“In this way, candidates are expected to take advantage of the exposed material to reflect on their own status as a student and professional future”, Fuvest wrote in a note released this Sunday.

WHAT WILL THE TESTS BE LIKE?

The second phase is carried out over two days lasting up to four hours each day. Both tests are discursive questions and the number of questions varies. The candidate can write in block letters or cursive, as long as it is intelligible and complies with the cultured norms of the language:

1st day: 100 points = 50 points for the questions + 50 points for the essay
There are 10 discursive questions in Portuguese, on text interpretation, grammar and literature, and an essay with at least 20 lines

2nd day: 100 points
There are 12 discursive questions from two to four disciplines specific to the enrolled career

WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF VACANCIES OFFERED BY FUVEST 2024?

All registered candidates will compete for open competition (AC) vacancies. When registering, the candidate should inform whether they would also compete for vacancies allocated to Affirmative Action Policies: Public School (EP) or Black, Brown and Indigenous (PPI).

B.C: vacancies for all candidates, without requiring any prerequisites, even with access to reserved vacancies

EP: 2,053 vacancies allocated to candidates who, regardless of income, have completed secondary education in Brazilian public schools.

PPI: 1,206 vacancies allocated to self-declared black, brown and indigenous candidates who, regardless of income, have completed high school in public schools.

In addition to the entrance exam, USP will offer 1,500 places through Enem and another 1,500 through Provão Paulista, a new serial entrance exam, which will be applied to all high school students at state schools in São Paulo.

HOW IS THE FINAL GRADE CALCULATED?

The candidate’s final grade, used to classify careers, is given by the weighted average of the grades from the 1st and 2nd phase, normalized in base 100.

F1 = Normalized grade from phase 1
D1 = Grade from day 1 of phase 2
D2 = Grade from day 2 of phase 2
CE = Specific skills score
NFC = Candidate’s final grade

Formula for calculating grades in careers where there is no proof of specific competence:

NFC = (F1 + D1 + D2) / 3

Formula for calculating grades in careers where there is proof of specific competence:

NFC = [F1 + D1 + D2 + (2*CE)] / 5

After calculation, the candidate’s final grade will be converted to a 1,000-point scale and rounded to the second decimal place.

WHEN WILL THE FUVEST 2024 RESULTS COME OUT?

The first call for enrollment, with the list of those approved for Fuvest 2024, will be announced on the day January 22, 2024 on the Fuvest page. The registration period runs from January 29th to February 1st.

HOW TO ENROLL?

Every candidate who was called in one of the two calls or on the waiting list must confirm their enrollment in two virtual stages: pre-registration and acceptance — the dates are indicated in the 2024 Entrance Exam Guide.

If you were called for one of the public school affirmative action (EP) vacancies or for one of the black, brown and indigenous (PPI) affirmative action vacancies, you must confirm, on the virtual registration form, that you belong to the affirmative action that you chose when registering. In due course, a hetero-identification panel will analyze the condition of these candidates.

Observation: If you took the Provão Paulista, follow the information on the official website. Remaining vacancies from Provão Paulista return as Fuvest EP or PPI vacancies, depending on the notice.
