Funds for LGBT parade put Tarcísio in conflict with the right

In an attempt to demonstrate coherence with their speeches and wave to the conservative voter, both the governor of the state of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), and the mayor of the capital of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), did not attend or post in social networks supporting the LGBT Pride Parade, held last Sunday (11), on Avenida Paulista. The event is considered the largest in the world.

Some members of the São Paulo City Hall team, however, were present and posted messages of support, as was the case with Marta Suplicy (MDB), Secretary of International Relations for the city of São Paulo, and Soninha Francine (Cidadania), Secretary of Human Rights and Citizenship of the capital.

Criticism of Governor Tarcísio

Despite not supporting the LGBT parade in his networks, Governor Tarcísio has been criticized for allegedly funding the event. In the post, the page clarifies that the “almost 300 million” that the government of São Paulo would be delivering to the LGBTQIA+ movement would actually be the R$ 750,000 for the +Orgulho program, a continuation of the previous administration. The account would also include a contract worth R$ 30 million + R$ 9 million related to the expansion and renovation of the Museum of Diversity. According to the page, “the 30M were divided into 4 years and the installments for 2022 and 2023 have already been paid. The contract was resumed on 12/27/2022, still under the previous management”, and would be under the responsibility of the Odeon Institute.

The page also states that the influencer Grimaldo would have added approximately R$200 million to the account for the Casarão Franco de Mello, but that in fact the São Paulo government will invest R$60 million through a public-private partnership (PPP ) to install the International Center for the Culture of Diversity, a multicultural space “where outdoor activities such as fairs, concerts, performances and cinema accessible to the entire population take place.”
