The National Front of Mayors, which represents managers of capitals and large cities, requested a meeting with the Minister of Health, Nísia Trindade, to discuss the “transfer of emergency resources” to combat dengue.

“Aware of the complexity and scope of the problem, we recognize the efforts of the Ministry of Health in confronting this situation. FNP mayors are available to contribute with effective actions to combat the proliferation of the Aedes aegypti mosquito”, says the letter, signed by president of the FNP, the mayor of Aracaju, Edvaldo Nogueira (PDT), and the entity’s deputy for the area of Health, Dário Saadi (Republicans), from Campinas.

The money would be used to pay for actions such as hiring agents to control the disease, reinforcing serum stocks and fogging areas.

“We want to open a channel of dialogue not only for resources, but to seek strategies to guide mayors in the fight against dengue,” Saadi told the Panel

Brazil has been recording a record number of cases of the disease. In São Paulo alone there are 31 confirmed deaths from the disease and 122 under investigation. The total number of infected people reaches 138,259. Of these, 169 are in a condition considered serious.
