Front against Abortion promotes event on ADPF 442 and judicial activism

The Joint Parliamentary Front against Abortion and in Defense of the Family promotes, this Thursday (10), a seminar on ADPF 442, which calls for the decriminalization of abortion up to the 12th week of pregnancy at the Federal Supreme Court (STF).

With the theme “the competence of the Legislative Power and judicial activism”, the event will be attended by parliamentarians, public authorities and personalities engaged in the fight for the rights of the unborn and for the dignity of intrauterine life.

Among the exhibitors, confirmed are the jurist Ives Gandra, the auxiliary bishop of Curitiba, Dom Reginei Modolo, the priest and president of the Pro-Life Movement of Anapólis, Father Luiz Carlos Lodi, among others.

The event will take place in the Nereu Ramos auditorium of the Chamber of Deputies, and will be broadcast live on TV Câmara.

Trial stopped at the STF

The trial of ADPF 442 is on hold at the STF, but can be resumed at any time, if the rapporteur and justice Rosa Weber decides to include the issue of abortion on the agenda, before leaving the court on October 2nd.

So far, the minister reporting the case, Rosa Weber, has granted three requests for amicus curiae – all still in the initial phase of the process, in May 2017: those from the Social Christian Party (PSC), the Union of Catholic Jurists of São Paulo and of the Institute for the Defense of Life and the Family.

If PSOL’s request prevails, articles 124 and 126 of the Penal Code (which prohibit abortion, but provide that the practice is not punished in cases of rape and risk to the mother’s life) will be modified to allow abortion – for any reason – up to 12 weeks of gestation.
