From Amazonas to Panama: Amazonians are qualified for the Pan American U15

Maceio (AL) – With expressive results in the Brazilian U15 Championship, the athletes Agata Franco, Fabian Lima, Francisco da Silva, Gabriele de Souza, Mailk Ibson and Jennifer Queiroz placed Amazonas in the highest place on the podium, and guaranteed the classification for the Pan American, which takes place in October in Panama.
With the support of the Government of Amazonas, the team received air tickets through the Secretary of State for Sports and Leisure (Sedel), to compete in the national competition.
“Governor Wilson Lima has been committed to promoting grassroots and high-performance sports so that Amazonian athletes with potential, such as the Wrestling team, can win international titles. This commitment has strengthened and transformed the sport scenario in Amazonas”,
highlighted Jorge Oliveira, head of Sedel.
Organized by the Brazilian Wrestling Confederation (CBW), the Brazilian U15, held in Maceió (AL), last weekend, ranked the first placed in each category to make up the Brazilian National Team in the Pan American Championship, which takes place in October in Panama .
With a positive performance in the national competition, the Amazonian delegation played in six finals and won 4 gold and 2 silver medals.
“The performance of the athletes in the Brazilian Nationals was excellent, in terms of technical percentage we managed to achieve 100% of the results in the finals, in addition to winning four gold medals. All this thanks to the support received from Governor Wilson Lima, we represent Amazonas and guarantee more places in the Brazilian National Team and in international competitions”,
said Anderson Alves, coach of the Amazonian wrestling team.
Agata Franco, 14 years old, won the gold medal in the under-50 kg freestyle category. The young woman, born in the municipality of Benjamin Constant (1,121 kilometers from Manaus), joined the Brazilian Wrestling delegation team for the first time.
“I am happy to have won this victory and grateful to have represented my municipality of Benjamin Constant and the state of Amazonas, and for having achieved my goal. I will keep training to always give my best”,
commented Agata Franco, gold medalist in the Brazilian Nationals.
Another highlight in the competition in the 48kg category is the athlete Mailk Ibson, who won the gold medal in the championship.
“I won my fight with technical superiority and my performance was very good in the dispute, I’m happy to have won the spot for the Pan-American”,
highlighted.
